16 January 2023: TCEB joins forces with partners in holding the Amazing Muay Thai Festival 2023 in Hua Hin during 4-6 February 2023 with the aim to promote Thai cultural heritage through a global festival. The invitation goes to all interested persons around the world to join “Wai Kru” ceremony of Muay Thai on 6 February when the presence of 5,000 performers will list the ceremony in Guinness World Records.
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, TCEB is joining forces with the Royal Thai Army, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Sports Authority of Thailand and Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in holding the Amazing Muay Thai Festival 2023 during 4-6 February in Hua Hin, Prachuab Kiri Khan province. The festival will feature activities at 3 locations: 1) Rajabhakti Park, 2) Suan Son Pradipat Beach, and 3. Hua Hin District. The aim of the festival is to showcase Thai martial art as a form of national soft power on the global arena, as well as to use Muay Thai as a tool to add value to Thailand’s creative economy.
“The activity highlight is the world’s largest “Wai-kru” ceremony and Mae Mai Muay Thai show performed by 5,000 participants represented by boxers from Thai Boxing Club, Thai army, including overseas visitors. The ceremony will take place in the evening of 6 February at Rajabhakti Park and will be listed in Guinness World Records. It will be honoured by the presence of Mr. Mauricio Sulaiman, President of World Boxing Council (WBC), as well as athletes and Thai boxing enthusiasts from more than 20 countries who have confirmed their attendance.”
To help provide seamless experience for the festival, MICE Lane Service of TCEB is ready to facilitate the arrival of visitors from WBC during immigration procedures.
To be listed in the Guinness World Records, the festival will help promote Thailand’s national sport and national heritage in line with the government’s designation of 6 February every year “Thai Boxing Day”. Apart from attracting both Thai and international travellers, the festival is expected to generate over 100 million baht in revenue in the location of the festival throughout the event period.
The designation of 6 February “Thai Boxing Day” is due to the fact that it falls on the coronation day of King Sanphet VIII or Phra Chao Suea, whose passion for martial art resulted in the creation of Mae Mai Muay Thai techniques that have been inherited as the core principles of Thai traditional boxing to the latter generations.
Interested parties or persons can be a part of Muay Thai history in Hua Hin via online registration on TCEB-developed Biz Connect system. In order to promote MICE routes and MICE activities in Thailand, responding to Thailand MICE to Meet You Year 2023 campaign, TCEB will be setting up exhibition booth to meet and provide information for interested persons.
