The Great India Education Fair opens at QSNCC offering a wide range of options to study in India

Bangkok - The Great India Education Fair 2014 (TGIEF) opened its doors last 1st March at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre to showcase the finest universities, colleges and boarding schools from across India, and offering a wide range of options for students from Thailand to study in India very cost effectively. The exhibition, which is the seventh in the series and will be held for a two-day period from 1-2 March, also appeals to the non-resident Indian diaspora in Thailand.

The Ambassador of India to Thailand, His Excellency Mr Harsh Vardhan Shringla, presided over the opening ceremony and was accompanied by representatives from key supporters of the event, including the India-Thai Business Association, India-Thai Chamber of Commerce, Indian Association of Thailand, Global Talent Consultants, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the fair organiser Afairs Exhibitions & Media Pvt Ltd.

“India is proud to have the second largest education system in the world,” said His Excellency Mr Shringla. “Indian institutions have high standards in the fields of engineering, medicine, agriculture, management, journalism, social work, planning and architecture, and also in emerging areas such as bio-technology, bio-informatics and space technology.

The Great India Education Fair will provide easy and direct access to Thai students and parents to meet face-to-face with the admission authorities of the participating Indian institutions in a friendly and informal atmosphere in order to seek authentic and transparent information, providing a unique opportunity for students and parents to gather information on matters such as course eligibility and course fees.

Some 5,000 visitors are expected to take advantage of this opportunity of meeting directly with the representatives of India’s leading education institutions. The fair is divided into two sections, one on boarding schools offering admissions from Grade 2 onwards and the other on higher education comprising universities and colleges.

The schools section is showcasing India’s premier boarding schools from various parts of India offering the Indian Curriculum, which is ISC and CBSE, along with the International Curriculum that is Cambridge International Examination (CIE) and International Baccalaureate (IB). Some schools are also offering spot admissions and spot counselling to the parents. In the higher education section Indian universities and top colleges are presenting a very wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and vocational courses for students between 18 to 25 years.

Ms. Jaruwan Suwannasat, Director of the Exhibitions and Events Department at TCEB, commented that with Thailand’s strategic position in Asean and the new Asean Economic Community (AEC), the potential for young Thais with a good education and English language proficiency to enjoy satisfying and rewarding careers is going to be immense.

“The Great India Education Fair will be one of the most significant interactive platforms for education institutions to directly interact face-to-face with thousands of aspiring students,” she said. “TCEB, with our belief in the ‘Partner Centric’ notion, has extended our utmost support to TGIEF in promoting the event with a buyer appreciation programme - Be My Guest - to attract qualified participants to attend the event.”

Mr. Sanjeev Bolia, Founder and Managing Director of Afairs Exhibition & Media Pvt Ltd said that experience over the years in which the exhibition has been staged in Thailand has proved that Thai parents are very discerning and keen to give their children the best education they can.

“They send their children to India because they understand that English language proficiency apart, the cost-benefit advantage an Indian education offers them is greater than a similar education in the United Kingdom, the United States or even in Thailand can give them. The average cost for a three-year degree course in business management, the arts, or science and technology, including tuition fees and living costs, is USD 10,000 in India, Mr. Bolia said.

By comparison, the cost in Australia would be between USD 37,000 and USD 42,000, in the UK it would be USD 56,000 to 66,000, a public institute in the US would be USD 80,000, and a US private institute would be 137,000 for a four-year business or arts degree course, and 102,000 for a three-year science and technology course.
