Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, disclosed that TCEB recently held the MICE Standards Day 2022 in which over 250 MICE entrepreneurs in Thailand have joined us online and on-site. The event aimed to hasten the enhancement of Thailand MICE Venue Standards or TMVS, as well as to drive Thailand Sustainable Event Management Standard or TSEMS, in regard to respond to the global trend that has now shifted its focus to businesses with social and environmental concerns while it is also in alignment with the government’s BCG Economy Model.
“Considering the post-COVID-19 consumer needs, it is normal to see people essentially remain concerned in hygiene and safety against the pandemic. Meanwhile, global MICE industry has a tendency to give attention to business operations with social and environmental concerns, as well as economic dimension. Therefore, MICE standards are important elements that contribute to competitive advantages of MICE businesses. They also emphasise our goal to expedite Thailand towards becoming a global leader in MICE industry.”

As a government agency responsible for the promotion of conference and exhibition, TCEB is also the world’s first CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau) to initiate the development of venue standardisation, which commenced for the first time in Thailand. The operation has continually marked consistent achievements and it is now widely recognised at ASEAN level. The endorsement sign is used as the affirmation that the venue, convention centre, exhibition building, hotel, resort, as well as private and public venues operating with this sign are appropriate, according to international MICE standards, thus assuring domestic and international MICE travellers of the quality of Thailand’s MICE entrepreneurs.

Currently, TMVS-certified premises are divided into 3 categories, comprising 1,299 rooms in 341 venues in the Meeting Room category, 28 halls in 15 venues in the Exhibition Venue category and 59 holding areas in 55 venues in the Special Event Venue category. The goal is that the number of certified venues in 3 categories will increase by 120 venues in 2022.

Furthermore, there are premises certified with the ASEAN MICE Venue Standards or AMVS, comprising 91 venues in the Meeting Room category and 5 halls in the Exhibition Venue category. The goal is that the number of certified venues in these 2 categories will increase by 20 venues in 2022.

Apart from TMVS and AMVS, TSEMS is the standard that TCEB has initiated for Thailand’s MICE entrepreneurs to use as the direction in sustainable event development that particularly suits the context of Thai society. Respecting to achieve this, TCEB acts as the financial sponsor responsible for the costs related to training, evaluation and certification. Currently, there are 35 TSEMS-certified organisations, which represent all regions and all categories of MICE entrepreneurs, including MICE venue, Organizer, Professional Exhibitor Organizer, Suppliers, Contractors, Destination Management Company, as well as agencies from public sector, social enterprise and private sector responsible for MICE events. For example, SO/ Bangkok Hotel, Grand Richmond Stylish Convention Hotel, Angsana Laguna Phuket Hotel, Ayutthaya City Park Center of Lifestyle & Leisure, Paula & Co DMC (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Image Corporation (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Energy Complex by PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) and the conference division of Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited. It is estimated that the number of certified venues will increase by 20 organisations, which will be in a total of 55 TSEMS-certified organisations by 2022.

“Additionally, TCEB also serves as the agency bringing the organisers who are members of the Business of Creative and Event Management Association (EMA) to visit TMVS-certified venues. The “TMVS Partnership Program” is held monthly and expected to bolster an integrated networking between organising service providers and venue service providers. The activity aspires to establish business partnership and direct business opportunity because events can generate economic impact 500,000 million baht and create 300,000 employments. Therefore, TCEB is moving forward to collaborate with entrepreneurs from private sector in order to prepare for the reopening and hasten to drive MICE events nationwide from May onwards.” concluded Mr. Chiruit.
