Thailand has 33 civilian airports with Bangkok as a travel hub for the whole Southeast Asian region with numerous international airlines flying to and from the city. Originally Bangkok International (Don Muang) Airport was the country's main airport. However in September 2006 Don Muang ceased operation with flights going to the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Currently Thailand has eight major ports, five of which are operated by the Port Authority of Thailand - Port of Bangkok (at Klong Toey), deep-sea port at Laem Chabang on the east coast, Ranong in the south, and two ports on the Mekong River in the north at Chieng Saen and Chieng Khong serving trade with China. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) runs efficient and inexpensive rail services linking Bangkok with the rest of the country, serving as a people and goods carrier to each of Thailand’s main regions. The rails system covers 4,880 kms of metre gauge track, with all routes running out of Bangkok. Long distance trains come in three categories: rapid, express and special express, with the option of sleepers.

Thailand has had an active road-building program since the early 1960s and now boasts a vast network of all-weather highways and roads linking all parts of the nation, covering 79,180 km and facilitating efficient land transport mostly on single carriageway roads, with dual carriageways along major routes.
